Driving in Greece
In Greece, we drive on the right side of the road. Country roads are sometimes narrower and steeper, so you should make sure to obey speed limits and stay alert. If queues form behind you due to your adherence to the limits, find a safe spot on the road at the first opportunity and let other vehicles pass.
Alcohol, drugs, and certain prescribed medications can affect your driving. They may slow your reaction times and alter your senses. Driving under the influence of these substances is not only illegal but also dangerous for you and those around you. Country roads often lack adequate lighting, so it would be wise to keep your lights on low beam.
Seat belts are mandatory for everyone in the vehicle. It is illegal to use a mobile phone or smoke while driving. It is advisable to wear safe shoes for driving, not flip-flops, for example.
Maintaining safe distances is mandatory, especially with a rented RV, as its size may be much larger than the vehicles you are used to driving. If you are tired, the chances of being involved in an accident increase, and your reflexes decrease. Therefore, make sure you are well-rested before any long journey. Also, do not underestimate the necessary short breaks at intervals, as they will ensure you a smoother, more relaxed, and safer journey. Moreover, do not forget that at any time you feel tired, sleepy, or distracted while driving, you can simply park on the side of the road at a safe spot and rest comfortably inside the RV.
If you have any questions regarding the legislation or anything else, please contact us. We are always happy to assist you.
What is the Ideal Month for a NOMAS Trip?
All! Our RVs are designed to withstand all weather conditions throughout the year. With heating and cooling systems in place, every month can be a travel delight. In the summer, you can travel to lower altitudes and enjoy the Greek seas and warm temperatures, while in the winter, you can enjoy snowy mountains, quiet yet vibrant mountain villages, and experience the ultimate Greek way of life. Of course, depending on your budget, NOMAS offers you the opportunity to live and enjoy the Camper’s Life in quieter months, with lower rents!
What is the Greek Policy on Camping?
At NOMAS, we offer you fully autonomous motorhomes, equipped with everything you need to park almost anywhere. All our motorhomes have solar panels, giving you the ability to have power supply everywhere through their battery. Greek law allows you to camp in organized camping sites or in areas designated for 24-hour parking. However, you can also park your RV wherever you would park your car. This flexibility of the law allows you to stay anywhere, provided you do not open the windows beyond their extension, and do not place an external table or chairs outside the RV. So, practically, you can stay anywhere. Only in very touristy areas, you may receive a notification to move if you are in the same spot for many days.
What are the Positives of Camper's Life?
Freedom: With a NOMAS RV, you can adjust your holiday schedule throughout your journey and change the times you spend in the places you visit according to your preferences. How many times have you visited a place that surprised you positively or negatively but did not have the opportunity to either spend more time there or leave earlier? With NOMAS RVs, you can! Always remember that since your “home” is on four wheels, you can take it wherever you want!
Isolation and Privacy: You can visit a range of places that would be impossible if you were staying in a hotel room. You can visit places far from civilization (we will help you with our guides on this!) if that’s what you’re looking for, but at the same time, you can visit places full of people who are doing exactly what you’re doing: experiencing the ultimate Camper’s Life!
Different Experiences: Holidays in an RV are a unique experience that you will never forget. It is a common secret that most people who choose “alternative” holidays rarely return to hotel rooms. RV holidays will give you the opportunity to experience camping, but at the same time, they will provide you with all the comforts you need to feel at home everywhere. You will have your own bathroom, comfortable bed, heating, kitchen, living room, even… a cinema!
The View: You can either try the adventurous aspects of nature or simply relax and enjoy it visually. In any case, one thing is certain: you will enjoy unique and unforgettable views!
Flexibility: In a short period of time, you can move from the tranquility of nature to the heart of cosmopolitan life and change your route according to the moment’s desires.
Basic Tips for RV Vacations
During check-in, we will give you countless tips based on our experience regarding life in a campervan, especially in our NOMAS RVs. However, we can also provide you with some tips now to prepare.
- We do not wear outdoor shoes inside the house when walking in it, let alone with heels. Its floor is extremely sensitive, and it is very easy to damage it from outdoor shoes. At every stop, do not forget to buy supplies for cooking. This will greatly reduce the overall cost of your vacation but will also offer you the unique experience of cooking in nature, always with caution. Leave restaurants for special meal occasions and dine under the stars accompanied by your favorite music. Choose places where there are no “neighbors,” and you will enjoy the ultimate magic and tranquility of nature, seeing images that will remain unforgettable to you forever.
- While driving, observe the speed limits, the necessary distances, and devote your full attention. Especially when crossing small villages, you should be careful about cases where small children are playing on the road. On narrow and rural roads, pay special attention to your distances and make sure you do not approach the branches at the edge of the road too closely, as they cause unwanted damage. Also, pay particular attention to the height of the RV, as most accidents on its roof occur due to underestimation.
- Always check your fuel and do not let the tank run empty. You never know if the rural gas station where you planned to refuel is still open.
Make sure to empty your toilet frequently and refill your water regularly.
What kind of luggage do you recommend?
Our RVs have plenty of space for luggage, however, ideally, you should pack in soft bags. This will allow you to fully utilize the space and avoid filling it with suitcases. They also have closets where you can store your clothes, and we will, of course, be happy to store any large luggage you do not want to keep with you in our space.
